Neuters

A Neuter (Castration) serves multiple purposes. Population control is very important, especially in remote communities. Individually, It can help prevent hormone-driven behavioral issues like urine marking, dominance, roaming and territoriality. It also eliminates the risk of cancer or infection of the reproductive organs as well as prostate issues.

Our neuter procedure includes injectable anesthesia, oral and injectable pain management, local injectable nerve blocks, vital sign monitoring, sterile prep and procedure, an Elizabethan collar and of course follow up communication from us!

  • Canine Neuter >40lbs: $475

  • Canine Neuter <40lbs: $375

  • Over 100 lbs: additional $100

  • Feline Neuter: $200

Spays

A Spay (Ovariohysterectomy) means surgical removal of the uterus and ovaries. This prevents pregnancy, of course, but it provides important health benefits as well. Have you heard of Pyometra? This is a life threatening condition which occurs when the uterus becomes infected at the end of a dog's heat cycle (estrus/ovulation). This is a big reason we recommend spaying a dog if she is not planned for breeding, especially in remote areas. Emergency surgery is the only good treatment for pyometra, and this is just not available throughout much of Alaska.  Also, did you know that dogs can develop breast cancer? If a dog goes through 2 or more heat cycles in her life, she has a 1 in 4 chance of developing malignant mammary tumors. We can keep this risk to less than 5-8% if we spay her prior to her second heat, and less than 1% if spayed prior to her first.

Our spay procedure includes injectable anesthesia, oral and injectable pain management, local injectable nerve blocks, vital sign monitoring, sterile prep and procedure, an Elizabethan collar and of course follow up communication from us!

  • Canine Spay>40lbs: $575

  • Canine Spay <40lbs: $650

  • Complicated (in heat, over 2 years): additional $100

  • Over 100lbs: additional $100

  • Feline Spay: $300

Dental Cleaning

Keeping your pet's mouth clean will help both of you out in many ways. Ridding the mouth of bacteria and infected teeth helps reduce inflammation and pain in gums. It also prevents that bacteria from spreading throughout the body, especially to the heart. It will also get rid of stinky breath!
