Common Inquiries
How does a clinic work?
We plan out an in person clinic as much as possible prior to arrival by collaborating with someone in your community. We communicate with our clients and gather information in advance. Once we arrive we will see patients at a pre-determined location and potentially do some house or farm visits as needed. We are excited to meet you in person!
Why are there packages?
In an effort to offer the best possible care and make a thorough plan for patient care after we are gone, we offer pet health packages. These include follow up consultations and further testing when appropriate. This allows us and our clients to begin the relationship knowing exactly what to expect from one another, and save the client some money for being proactive about getting the most thorough care!
How do I pay and why is there a deposit?
We accept all major credit cards, cash, care credit, and work with many different pet insurance options. We do require everyone to make a deposit of their exam value prior to the in-person clinic to reserve their appointment slot. This is because it takes a large investment of money and time to reach remote Alaska and we need funding resources to make it happen. After services are rendered, you simply pay the remainder! If Alaska weather or travel troubles prevent us from reaching the clinic destination, you will be issued a complete refund. If you miss your appointment without communicating with us about it ahead of time, the deposit will not be refunded.
How does surgery work?
In remote places without a surgery suite and inhalant anesthesia, we rely on injectable drugs and close monitoring to keep animals pain free and unconscious for basic surgical procedures. We use portable monitors to keep track of animal health during surgery. There are limits to what can be done under these conditions, in which case we will refer you to a higher level of care.
